9:00-9:15 Reading Workshop Begins: Mini Lesson & Book Talk · Teacher introduces new texts to students. · Teacher instructs a mini lesson a certain topic that can be used in reading. Lesson should include modeling and guided practice. · Students can be gathered on carpet, listening to teacher, and be engaged in learning. 9:15-9:55 Independent Reading & Conferring with Students · Teacher confers with students individually and has a conversation with the student about the book they are reading to gain understanding of each students reading process. · Students should be reading silently and individually in a comfortable area. 9:55-10:00 Group Share · Teacher guides sharing process. · Students share their reading experiences (normally related to mini lesson) with either the whole class or partners. 10:00-10:02 Writers Workshop Begins: Writers Talk · Teacher introduces the class to a writer they may not know. · Students are listening to teacher on rug. 10:02-10:17 Mini Lesson · Teacher instructs a mini lesson on a certain topic that can be used in writing. · Students can be gathered on carpet, listening to teacher, and be engaged in learning. 10:17-10:19 Status of the Class · Teacher gathers information of students writing process. · Students inform the teacher of personal reading process and have goals in mind for the days work. 10:19-10:54 Independent Writing & Conferring with Students · Teacher confers with students individually. · Students are engaged in writing independently and practicing the strategy that was taught during the mini lesson. 10:54-11:00 Group Share · Teacher guides sharing process. · Students share their reading experiences (normally related to mini lesson) with either the whole class or partners. 11:00-11:15 Interactive Read Aloud · Teacher reads book to class stopping occasionally to ask questions. This book will be used for tomorrows mini lesson. · Students are listening and answering comprehension questions. |

The teacher is helping this group of students with their specific needs using teacher-selected texts. · Students are developing their processing strategies as they read a variety of teacher selected texts. · Students who are not participating in the guided reading group this day should be reading independently/ practicing what was taught in the mini lesson. 10:35-10:55 Literature Circles · Teacher walks around and listens in to student led literature circles. The teacher should not be leading the conversation and should only intervene if the conversation needs redirecting. · Students are in a small, heterogeneous group discussing the literary elements and multiple dimensions of a text. 10:55-11:00 Group Share · Teacher guides sharing process. · Students share their reading experiences (normally related to mini lesson) with either the whole class or partners. |
