Assessments and Reflections
Throughout the semester I reflected upon students work and assessments I ran with students. This was done to help me better understand children and how they learn. The assessments allow teachers to see what level reading or writing the student is at so the teacher can provide the lessons that will help students advance to the next level. I wrote essays that reflected upon student word study, spelling inventories, running records, and students writing during my junior year internship in a third grade class. In addition, I collected data and wrote a case study on student during my senior year internship in a fourth grade class. The assessments used in this case study include a running record, spelling inventory, a writing sample and rubric, and both a hobbies interview and a literature interview. These assessments taught me, not only about the student I was observing, but how to perform these assessments since I ran them with students in the field. Below are links to the essays I wrote.
Also included are links to reflections I wrote after teaching lessons in the field. Writing these reflections allowed me to go back and think about what I did right and what I could have done better in my lessons. They allow me to improve my teaching and know better strategies that would work for the students to get the best education I can give them.
