Planning for Instruction
Throughout my educational career I had the opportunity to create numerous lesson plans for different areas of instruction. Every lesson is explained in detail and lists the common core standard(s) to which the lesson relates to. I have created these lessons to ensure that they cover common core standards required for the grade level I was preparing for. When planning my lessons and during teaching, I make sure to incorporate the to-with-by model which is a great way to scaffold for students. My lessons follow the workshop model that I learned from Fountas and Pinnell. The begging of my lessons always include me modeling what I want students to do. My lessons then move into guided practice. At first, we will do an example together with extensive help from me and continue onto another example that has less teacher help. Finally, students will have independent practice which is where they will be able to practice the strategy being taught on their own. During this time, I have the opportunity to work with students independently, in groups, or hold conferences with the students. I like to incorporate literacy into any subject, including science, social studies, and the arts. My science lesson plans follow the STEM education model and are organized to clearly see how each of my lesson relates to the five E's (Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, Evaluate). In addition, I try to incorporate technology into any lesson I can because I feel it is a great way to engage students. In addition, I also enjoy working with Smartboard and have taken a class while at Rider on how to incorporate Smartboard into lessons.
I have included copies of numerous lesson plans that I have created. Some of these lessons I had the opportunity to teach. Those experiences are under the Teaching Experiences tab.
